I recently dove into the world of Linux (I wish I would have a lot earlier). I discovered a lot along the way and would like to share some information in order to consolidate some of the answers, which I had questions to, along the way of implementing Linux into my life.
I installed Linux on an extra server I had laying around for the main reason of experimenting with website hosting. After working with Linux for about a week, I decided to install a few other things on the server, as well as integrate it into my Home Automation system.
- Install the Linux OS COMING SOON - I decided to run Xubuntu 11.10 (Ubuntu with XFCE environment) on my server
- Configure Disk Utility COMING SOON - Configure disk partitions and RAID options
- Install Updates COMING SOON - Update the system files and other components
- Install Software COMING SOON - A quick guide on how to install software modules
- Install Webmin COMING SOON - Webmin is used to manage the server remotely easily
- Install VNCServer COMING SOON - Unlike Webmin, VNCServer allows the server desktop to be displayed remotely
- Install Apache2, PHP5, and MySQL COMING SOON - Install these components to manage websites
- Setup Virtual Hosts COMING SOON - To host more than one web domain from your server
- Install ddclient COMING SOON - To run the server on a dynamic IP address
- Install VirtualBox COMING SOON - Allows the user to run another OS inside Linux (Such as Windows XP or Windows 7)
