How To Setup A Networked Computer To Share Printers

Instead of having to save whatever you want to print to a disk or flash drive in order to open it on another computer just to print it, your computer can be set up to use a printer that is connected to your network. By setting up a networked printer, you will save a lot of time and hassle when needing to use a printer.

Items Needed:

- Printer that has a LAN, Wi-Fi, or BlueTooth connection

- Computer

- Router

- Necessary cables to connect everything

Step 1: Install your router

Step 2: Connect other computers to your router with patch cables.

Step 3: Configure your router to access the Internet (optional to share files or a printer)

Step 4: Configure wireless settings

Step 5: Secure your wireless network (unless you want your neighbors to be able to access your files)

Step 6: Install the printer drivers (drivers can be downloaded from the website of the manufacturer of the printer)

Step 7: Follow the instructions during installation to enable your computer to connect to the printer through the network

Step 8: If step 7 does not allow the printer to connect...

Step 8.5: Click 'START' then click 'CONTROL PANEL'

Step 9: Double-click 'PRINTERS AND FAXES'

Step 10: Click 'FILE' then click 'ADD A PRINTER'

Step 10.5: Follow the instuctions to connect the printer...if that does not work, contact tech support.
