There are many benefits to enabling 'bridged mode' on a DSL modem. Most internet users want their router to do all the "talking" to the internet and let the Westell modem be the "middle-man".
Enabling 'bridged mode' enables the public IP to sent from the router for dynamic dns purposes, instead of sending the private IP of the router behind the Westell modem.
If you don't wish to set the modem to bridged mode, you can simply change your router IP address to 192.168.2.1 instead of 192.168.1.1 to use a router in-line with the modem
Step 1: Login to the Westell modem
To access the Westell modem:
- You may have to connect the modem directly to the computer (Without a router between the computer and modem)
- Open Internet Explorer
- Type in the address bar: 192.168.1.1
- Press 'Enter'
- When the login screen appears, enter the username and password
- Default Username: admin
- Default Password: password
Step 2: Locate and click 'My Network'
